Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
How often do you go to a place of fear? 5 times, 10 times, 20 times per day?
The truth is whether consciously or sub-consciously, your old nature will always be going to a place of fear and reacting out of fear. As a New Creation in Christ Jesus, one area of your thinking that you must give no place to is fear!
Every time you find yourself reacting to a situation or loved one – it might be in anger, worry, anxiety, or you might even find yourself becoming overwhelmed and tearful, a spirit of fear can be at the root of these reactions.
Learn to detect or read the "red flags” of your fearful emotions such as….
Annoyance or anger toward your partner or kids…
That twang” of worry and anxiety in your soul…
Becoming “emotional and overwhelmed” through stress and burdens…
All of these are “red flags” that all is not well with your soul – there are thorns or rocks in the soil of your heart.
How do we deal with these rocks and thorns? It’s through the grace of Jesus' Word.
You cannot deal with these rocks and thorns through your own self-effort. The most self-effort you can do is merely to manage these issues and this is what the world teaches through anger management and psychotherapy. What you need to do is treat the issue at its root and only the Word of God can do that. This is the essence of what Jesus is saying in the Parable of the Sower.
The seed is the Word of Jesus that like a scalpel cuts away negative emotions at their root. Hebrews 4:12 says the Word of God is sharper than a double-edged sword…
Jesus' Word also washes through the soil of your heart irrigating and purifying it. The continual washing of the Word dissolves negative thoughts, beliefs and even addictions of the heart. It is not your own power that does it, but the power of looking to Jesus through His Word. (Ephesians 5:26)
Meditating on the Word of God, rather than the worries, the issues, the problems (which only create condemnation and more fear) is the key.
Let me encourage you to meditate on Psalm 23. Break the Psalm down into bite-sizes, for example:
“The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want”; “He restores my soul”; “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil”; “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life”…
Focus on the phrase that is most relevant to your current situation.
Meditating upon the Word enables it to go deep into the soil of your heart and it starts washing through your heart dealing with all those fears; worries and condemnation that are causing negative reactions and emotions. But it's also how the Word of God prospers you in every area of your life! (Joshua 1:8)
