Leviticus 27:14 If a man dedicates his house as holy to the Lord, the priest shall set a value for it, whether it is good or bad; as you, the priest, value it, so it shall be.
The context of Leviticus 27 is talking about vows and bringing offerings unto the Lord.
Moses was laying down a system that assigned a value to the things people would bring to honor the Lord. He said you can commit to bringing out of your livestock, your possessions, houses, and land. But he also said your firstborn animals don’t count as an offering (i.e., giving) because they already belong to the Lord (Leviticus 27:26). He said the same thing about the tithe – it cannot be used as an offering to the Lord because it is holy and it already belongs to the Lord (Leviticus 27:30).
But what I want to draw your attention to is the roles of the priest, to set the value – that is to declare whether something is good or bad.
This reminds me of everyday life and how we speak. Two Christian work colleagues can wake up on the same day and one can say, “Today is going to be a bad day because I have to go to work and I have a really bad boss!” The other can choose to disagree saying that he is going to have a good day, a blessed day! Both of these work colleagues will go through the same week in the same workplace but with very different outcomes. While the first person’s week will turn out to be bad – because that’s what they declared, the second will have a week that is filled with God’s favor.
Revelation1:6 declares that because of the work of Christ on the cross, you are a king and a priest. You belong to the priesthood of Jesus (Hebrews 7:8,17) and therefore as a king and a priest, whatever you declare with your mouth, it is powerful. It carries the binding power of a priest and a king.
Jesus said this same thing in the gospel of Matthew:
Matthew 18:18 "Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Understand the authority you possess and the power of your words to loosen and to bind. Understand the power of your words when it comes to your health and your wealth.
If you are the type of person that says that you always catch the flu or you are so susceptible to diseases or sickness, you are binding yourself with sickness. You need to loosen yourself from sickness and disease by declaring what God’s Word says about you – that “by Jesus stripes, you are healed” (1 Peter 2:24).
If you are the type of person that says I fear for this year because the economy is in a downturn, you are binding yourself with lack. You need to loosen financial breakthrough over your life by declaring, “My God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
As a king and priest in Christ understand the power of your words to bind and to loosen. Bind the works of the devil and loosen the works of God. Amen!
