1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of this world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
The world has a secret ‘love-affair’ with the supernatural.
How many movies have you watched about ordinary natural people suddenly receiving supernatural power and strength? From Spiderman to Batman, Ironman, the Avengers, Antman… the list seems endless. In all these cases we see an ordinary, natural-looking person, but what makes them different is they have a superpower.
Now Hollywood tends to glamorize things for Box Office ratings but the truth is every Christian also carries a supernatural power. It is the Holy Spirit of God. Paul says when we receive Christ, we no longer carry the spirit of this world, but the Spirit who is from God.
What is the purpose of the Holy Spirit? Does He give us strength or superpowers that make us famous? He will give you strength and power but it is not for fame – it's to make you Christlike.
Paul goes on to say “…that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God”.
Jesus said to His disciples in John 14:26…But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
The Holy Spirit is the source of power to fulfill God’s will in your life. But this power is activated through you “knowing” what belongs to you in Christ.
David, was able to defeat Goliath where the Israelite army failed, not because he had special powers, but because he knew the power of his God.
David told the king: I can go into battle against this giant because the Lord brought me deliverance from a bear and a lion. And this same God who delivered me from the paws of the lion and bear will also deliver me from this Philistine. (1 Samuel 17:34-37)
David’s strength arose out of knowing his identity and his position with God and it is the same with Believers today. When you know your identity in Christ, you too will see the power of the Spirit of God in your life helping you to overcome things that are sent to destroy you.
You carry God’s Spirit. Be conscious of His presence by daily praying in the Holy Spirit – that simple daily act will deepen your awareness of God’s Spirit within you. He will remind you who you are in Christ and what Christ purchased for you through the cross. He will be your strength and peace when you go through trouble and will work in all things to fulfill the purposes of God in your life. (Romans 8:28)
