Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
“These things” the Apostle Paul was talking about are ‘troubles, trials, persecutions, and weaknesses’… things that are directly or indirectly coming against us. But Paul says you do not need to worry or be concerned because “If God is for you, who can be against you”?
It’s like the little brother at school who doesn’t have to worry about the bully harassing him because he has a big brother at that same school who can deal with that bully with just one look!
The truth is you have a Big Brother with a Big Name and there is nothing i.e. ‘no thing’ that can come against you when you know the Name of Jesus.
When God first made man, He gave him dominion over everything on earth.
Genesis 1:26 says: Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
But this authority and rulership was lost when humanity had its fall and the tempter (the devil) received that authority. Luke 4:5-7 reveals the devil has dominion over the earth for now, it says:
The devil led him (Jesus) up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.”
But this does not mean the devil has won.
God executed His plan of redemption by sending His Son, Christ to die on that cross. And Jesus' death did more than just restore you back to Adam’s position, it actually placed you in a higher position. The Bible says that we are now “raised in Christ and are seated with Him in heavenly places far above all principality, dominion, power and might...” (Ephesians 1:20-21) – your position in Christ is so much higher than the devil’s position on earth.
So when Paul says “If God is for you so what can be against you?”, it’s because you are seated in the same position as Christ, in the heavenlies. You have the same authority as Christ and all you need to do is use it against your adversary, the devil.
What is coming against you today?
Whatever its name, you need to know the Name of Jesus is greater, the Blood of Jesus is more powerful. God has commanded every name will bow down to the Name and Blood of Jesus. That includes sickness, lack, fear, worry.
But don’t just stand in silence looking at whatever that thing is coming against you. Open your mouth and declare the Name of Jesus for as long as it takes. Declare the blood of Jesus over your situation and you will see the victory!
