THE POWER TO BUILD YOURSELF UP

1 Corinthians 14:4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself…

When you pray in your heavenly language, you are edifying (building) yourself up.

The book of Jude in chapter 1 says something similar. It says in the last days that there will be scoffers who will try to divide the church, who do not follow after the Spirit, but their own natural instincts. And then verse 20 says, “but building yourself up in your faith, praying in the Holy Spirit…” (KJV)

We live in a very head-conscious world, driven by one’s natural instincts and that's why it's so important for the Christian to be praying in the Holy Spirit – to keep themselves built up in their faith.

But praying in the Holy Spirit doesn’t just build up the spiritual man, it builds up your entire being – spirit, soul, and body. (“Yourself” in verse 20 means all three - spirit, soul and body)

I pray in the spirit every day – it's how I start my day and it gives me an energy that lasts throughout the entire day and week. I’m not reaching the end of my week emotionally drained or physically spent. God’s Spirit knows exactly what you need and will bring “a rest” to you and recharge you on a daily basis.

Every time I wake up after a good night’s sleep I feel re-charged, but what really awakens me, is when I start praying in tongues.

I have found I don’t really need to do too much planning, scheduling or strategizing when it comes to our church sermons because praying in the Holy Spirit every day does it for me. The Lord drops ideas into my spirit or certain ideas stick which end up being the next message series for Church. But the greatest benefit is the ‘time savings’ praying in the spirit brings. I always seem to have so much time. It's amazing how those messages for our church, leaders and the Daily Devotions just come together and before I know it, I have hours, days to spare!

Praying in your heavenly language brings you well-being, wisdom and power.

3 John 1:2 says that we will prosper in accordance with our soul prospering. Praying in tongues brings this well-being into your internal world – your spirit is well, your soul is well, your body is well.

James 1:5 says that if any of us lack wisdom, to ask of God. Every time you are praying in the Holy Spirit, you have the wisdom of the Holy Spirit at your fingertips.

Acts 1:8 says you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. Being baptised in the Holy Spirit is the event that enables you to receive your heavenly language, but praying regularly and consistently in the Spirit is what causes the power of the Holy Spirit to be flowing out of you.

Every day, start by building yourself up through praying in the Holy Spirit – and enjoy well-being, wisdom, and power.
