THE BATTLE IS THE LORD'S

2 Chronicles 20;15 … Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is the Lord's.

Your thinking and your believing are paramount when it comes to the battles of life.

Whenever you are faced with a significant problem or challenge, what do you ask yourself? What am I going to do? You might even start thinking up a plan or strategy. Even family or friends might ask “what are you going to do?”

King Jehoshaphat was in a very similar situation. Several armies declared war on Judah and they were now on their way. But instead of focusing on what he would do, Jehoshaphat turned and said “let's pray”. He said, “Lord God, will you not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you”. (2 Chronicles 20:12)

When you turn your eyes to Jesus – that is called going to faith. And when you surrender your battles - challenges; sicknesses; financial hardships; addictions; relationship struggles… whatever your battle might be, saying, “I don’t know what to do, but my eyes are upon you”, then you will hear Jesus say:

“Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is the Lord's”.

The Lord told Jehoshaphat that would not need to fight in the battle. He said, “position yourself, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord."

Often, standing still, is the last thing we want to do and can do. We are so anxious and worried that it is almost impossible to remain still because we feel that we need to do something to try to save the situation.

But what does it actually mean to “stand still”?

What Jehoshaphat did was to position all of his singers onto the front line of the battlefield. Some people may wonder does this mean all I need to do is sing a few songs, and do nothing else when I have a problem?

No, do whatever the situation requires, obtain the wisdom of the Lord – but this posture of “spiritually standing still” means not to worry or fear in your heart. It is the rest of faith. Trust in the Lord to deal with the situation. Jehoshaphat prayed, he trusted in the Lord and he was at “rest”, knowing that God would deal with the situation.

2 Chronicles 20:25-26 tells that this battle took place in the Valley of Berachah. Berachah means “Blessing”. There is a powerful picture here. When you trust in the Lord, He will turn all your Battlefields into Blessings.

Are you in a battle right now? Stand still with a posture of rest in your heart – pray, trust God and cast the cares over to Him. Watch Him defeat your enemies, turning your battles into blessings!
