Joshua 5:13-14 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, "Are You for us or for our adversaries?" So He said, "Neither, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come."
God says the battle belongs to Him and He is the one who gives you the victory!
When Joshua was preparing the armies of Israel to go into battle against Jericho, a man suddenly appeared in front of him. It was none other than the Commander of the Army of the Lord. Who was the man? Clearly it is the Lord himself, Jesus Christ, as opposed to an angel because He doesn’t resist Joshua from worshipping Him. This is what we call a “theophany”, i.e. a manifestation of God which in this case was in the form of a man.
Jesus is our supreme commander who fights all our battles for us.
The Lord then said to Joshua in Joshua 6:2: “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.
Joshua and Israel were not going to have to do the fighting in this battle for the battle belonged to the Lord and it is the same for you and I. God says, “I have delivered”… past tense. Even though in the natural, the battle had not occurred, in the eyes of God, victory was already complete!
This is an important perspective about faith…
You might be sick or have symptoms in your body, but God already sees you healthy and victorious in Christ.
You might be in want and lacking financial provision in your bank account, but God already sees you wealthy and victorious in Christ.
Faith is declaring about yourself and your situation what God declares about you. And the same way He declared to Joshua, “I have delivered Jericho into your hands…”, believe God when He says to you “I have delivered you from sickness”; ‘I have delivered you from debt and lack”.
1 John 4:4: “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
Romans 8:31: “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
1 Samuel 17:47: “…the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD's.”
The battle belongs to the Lord. That means victory is already won! Victory has already been delivered to you.
As Joshua did, agree with the Lord and receive it by faith!
