Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Faith is a creative power.
It will build or destroy hopes and dreams depending on what you put your faith in. Faith in God will ultimately produce life and build a future hope leading to everlasting life. Faith in the world will ultimately destroy your life offering you no hope.
The same can be said when it comes to your words. The truth is every word you speak has power – to build or destroy hopes and dreams, to restore or cause loss, to heal or break the spirit, to bless or to curse. This is what Proverbs 18:21 is saying and it says something extra – that your words will always be fruitful – they will always produce either death or life.
Faith always “speaks” (2 Corinthians 4:13) and thus, there’s an important relationship between faith and your tongue. What is coming out of your mouth inevitably determines whether you are going towards faith (life) or to fear (death).
Proverbs 18:21 is no more important than when it comes to your own life and family. Your words will be creating either life or death in the world you live in. And you are going to become your own worst enemy or your own greatest advocate.
But whether you are 15 or 50, it is never too late to change the way you are talking. Why not start right now today! Stop lining your words up with negative circumstances. Instead, start lining your words up with what God’s Word says and release the power of His Word, that’s His abundant life, into all your situations.
Instead of speaking lack and poverty, say, “My God shall supply all my need according to His riches in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Begin to pronounce that your life is blessed, that you are blessed to be a blessing. Start trusting in God as your supplier and start sowing financial seed through giving into God’s House (2 Corinthians 9:6-8).
Instead of saying that it's flu season and you'll get sick, say, “by Jesus stripes, I am healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Say “I will live a long life. Jesus is my healer and brings healing to my bones, my body, my organs, and every part of me". Say, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and God’s Word declares no evil befalls the righteous” (Proverbs 12:21).
Instead of speaking fear over your life or your children, say, “I have not been given the spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind”. (2 Timothy 1:7) Don’t use fear or threats to motivate your children. Inspire them to live lives that honor God. Teach them to honor God’s House, to give into God’s House. There is nothing better you can do for your children than to train them to put their trust in God.
Give attention to the words that are coming out of your mouth. God wants you to have a blessed life, the very best of life!
