God’s Financial River – Breaking Free from the Spirit of Mammon

Church, money is a tool—but Jesus warns that money can become a master.

Jesus said,
"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."Matthew 6:24

This week, Pastor Wayne revealed the spiritual reality behind mammon, how it influences people today, and how believers are called to step into God’s supernatural financial river.

What is Mammon?

Mammon is not just money—it is a spiritual force that tries to replace God as our Source.

✅ Mammon says: “If you have more money, you will be secure.”
✅ Mammon says: “If you don’t have money, you should be afraid.”
✅ Mammon says: “Money is the answer—trust in it.”

But 1 Timothy 6:17 warns us:
"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment."

The Spirit of Mammon Turns Money into a False God

Jesus warns that money can become more than just a currency—it can be a master:

1. Mammon Makes Money a Master Instead of a Tool
The word “serve” in Matthew 6:24 means to become a slave, giving all your time and attention to it.

  • People become slaves to money, working multiple jobs, sacrificing family and health just to earn more.

  • People trust money more than God, believing that security and happiness come from financial success.

  • People worry when they lack money—but become overjoyed and prideful when they have it.

But the truth is:
"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"Matthew 6:26

2. Mammon Replaces God’s Role in Your Life
The spirit of mammon tries to take the place of God—offering what only God can give:

The world worships money in the same way believers are called to worship God. But Scripture is clear:

"You cannot put your faith in both God and money."Matthew 6:24

The World’s Version of Psalm 23

Pastor Wayne gave a powerful comparison between God’s truth and the lies of mammon:

The World’s Psalm 23
"Money is my shepherd, when I have it, I shall not want.
Money makes me lie down and rest in green pastures.
Money restores my soul.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, money comforts me.
My cup overflows with money.
Surely money and much more money shall follow me all the days of my life,
And I shall dwell in the security of money forever."

But the truth is:
"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want."Psalm 23:1

Mammon twists Scripture to replace God with wealth, convincing people that money is their true provider.

How to Break Free from the Spirit of Mammon

1. Choose to Serve God, Not Mammon
"No one can serve two masters… You cannot serve God and mammon."Matthew 6:24

We must make a conscious decision—to serve God as our Provider, not money as our security.

2. Renew Your Mind About Money
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."Romans 12:2

  • Money is not our source—God is.

  • Security is not in wealth—it’s in Christ.

  • Identity is not in possessions—it’s in sonship.

3. Seek First the Kingdom
"But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."Matthew 6:33

God promises that when we put Him and His purposes first, provision follows.

4. Worship Instead of Worry
"Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord."Psalm 121:1

When you are tempted to worry about money, choose instead to worship your Source—your Abba Father, who has already provided.

Step Into the River of God!

Church, Jesus is inviting you to step out of the world’s financial system and into His supernatural provision. Mammon says: “You need more money to be secure.” But Jesus says:

  • “I am your Source.”

  • “I supply all your needs.”

  • “I have already provided for you.”

Let’s renew our minds, worship instead of worry, and trust in God’s supply. The river of God’s provision is flowing—and you are already in it!
